EMBN Event April 2016

Hi everyone!

On Sunday 10th April I had the pleasure of attending an event held by the Elite Munster Bloggers Network (EMBN), in the Absolute Hotel, Limerick. I wanted to share the details of the day with you because I know there are lots of others like me who are nervous about putting themselves out there to attend any kind of event, and knowing a bit about the event in advance could put you at ease. Before I start, let me give a bit of a “Long Post Alert” – it’s not a very wordy one but there are lots of lovely pictures so I hope you enjoy it!

I attended the event on my own, so when I got the hotel I found one of the girls who I had got to know recently, Michelle from ShellyQuinnysBlog, and we sat chatting with some of the others until we were called in.

When we went to register we met with the organisers, Steph from S2UBeautyBlog and Erin from ChasingRubyChat, got a name tag, ordered our lunch, and took our places in the room. The tables were set up beautifully, with Goodie Bags left out for everyone (I’ll go through that later!), and Steph and Erin had arranged a seating-plan so that we would mix with the group and get to know each other – a bit daunting, but a great idea because I met the lovely Edel from PokieDoll and we got on great!

First up to start the event was a make-up demo by the talented Laura Dempsey, with her model Jen Morris (aka Too Dolly Makeup). The girls are good friends and the two of them work so well together.  Their shared love for all things make-up and Beyonce related, as well as their hatred for Jen’s persistently leaky eye (you had to be there) had us cracking up from start to finish. They are both fantastic make-up artists so make sure you look them up.

Next was Catriona Brennan from Revolve PR. She spoke about what PR companies like to see, how to interact with them, the importance of building a media kit, and tips about what not to do when looking for samples or collaboration opportunities.

Kerry Manning who writes the blog Fabulicious Fifty and is also a Business Coach and Marketing Strategist spoke about why we blog, having a clear vision and goal, building your brand, and the importance of researching topics you write/speak about.

Up next was David Coen, a personal trainer from Feel Good Fitness. David spoke about physical and mental fitness, and how to motivate yourself. I forgot to take a photo of David while he was speaking but I thought this slide was particularly interesting – good daily tips, encourage yourself, and don’t compare yourself to others.

We took a break for lunch and we had the chance to go outside the room and speak with the brand representatives who had come down for the day. EMBN got such great support from Cailyn Ireland, Mane ‘n Tail, Debenhams, Stella & Dot, Meaghear’s Pharmacy and The Body Shop. Mane ‘n Tail gave us some free product samples, and Meagher’s gave us a big box full of goodies (you can read all about it here). I treated myself to some Cailyn products but I want to test them out before I talk about them, so watch this space for a post!

Lunch was delicious – we were given a choice of meal and I went with Thai Green Chicken Curry and rice. I’ll definitely be visiting the hotel for lunch again in the near future.

Micheál from Educated Machine kicked off the second half of the day. EM offer free WordPress workshops to us bloggers so make sure you check them out. Micheál took us through the basics of WordPress and we had a few laughs along the way (Cats On Monkeys anyone…?).

Emer from Debenhams Limerick was next. She spoke to us about the Personal Shopping service that they offer in store and showed us some of the SS16 range. I can’t wait to go in and have a look through the collection myself!

Last but by no means least was the lovely Gillian from Meagher’s Pharmacy who did a demonstration of the latest must-have; the StylPro brush cleaner. I have to say it looks absolutely brilliant!!
