Unlike your normal red carpet event, where you expect to see elegance and couture, the annual Met Gala is a celebration of fashion which usually results in some interesting and out-there looks.
This year’s gala was in celebration of the opening of Rei Kawakubo’s “Comme des Garcons” exhibition in the Costume Institute. Rei’s style is quite far out there, so the interpretations on the red carpet were definitely going to result in some split opinions!
For the majority of people (myself included) who are unfamiliar with the collection, here are some snaps from the exhibition:
As usual there was a solid mix of interpretation across the guests at the gala. The majority stuck to the average red carpet expectations, but others really tried to pull influence from the collection into parts of their outfit, wether it be a hint in the dress itself or just by enhancing their hair and accessories. Here are some of my favourite looks from the night (there are a lot so grab a cuppa and settle in!):

Only a handful of the guests actually wore pieces from the Comme des Garcons collection, and boy did they stand out from the crowd!

Who wore your favourite overall look on the night?
Let me know in the comments!

Serena Williams was my favourite like she is always. Her dress looked incredible and she was so happy and loved up. Her snapchat story of the night was hilarious.

Hannah Redmayne’s dress is my favourite. Interesting looks in the collection! Can’t say I’m mad about those, prefer simpler styles. Reese Witherspoon and Miranda Kerr’s looks are nice & classy. I’d like Lily Rose Depp’s dress if it was a different colour, love the roses on it. But yep Hannah Redmayne’s def the fave. 🙂

I always prefer the simpler looks even though the Met Gala is always a chance to go for broke.
